Meet Your Chief Treasure Hunter: Joanna Miller

Joanna Miller has spent 15+ years in the nonprofit fundraising world, wearing just about every hat there is: major gifts officer, prospect researcher, and consultant. Along the way, she's helped organizations close more than $1.7 million in gifts, working directly with donors to turn quiet, unassuming supporters into transformational ones.

But Joanna's path also took her inside the wealth screening industry itself, as a Client Manager at WealthEngine. That experience gave her a rare vantage point: she's sat on both sides of the table, as the fundraiser pulling insights from a screening report and as the person building those reports in the first place. She knows exactly what wealth data can tell you, what it can't, and how to translate a spreadsheet of numbers into a real cultivation strategy.

That dual perspective is the foundation Hidden Gems Fundraising is built on. The consulting world is full of generalists who can help with a little bit of everything, but almost no one specializes in prospect research for small and midsize teams. The organizations that need it most are often the ones that can least afford a full-time researcher on staff. Joanna started Hidden Gems to fill exactly that gap.

She holds a degree in Arts Management from the University of Michigan and a Master's in Business Management from the University of Sydney, and her background in speech and debate still shows up in how she communicates: clearly, persuasively, and without the jargon that so often clouds data conversations.

At the end of the day, Joanna believes every donor database has hidden treasure in it. Her job is to help you find it.
